Carla Carmichael

Carla Carmichael is a senior leader in the nuclear industry with more than 30 years of experience in financial and commercial oversight, project planning, assurance and risk management. She is a strong advocate for clean energy technology, and its role in addressing climate change and supporting the socioeconomic fabric of communities. 

She currently advises several utilities on new nuclear projects, focusing on feasibility assessments, commercial planning and execution, nuclear program requirements, risk management and assurance model development. She also serves as member of the Council for Clean and Reliable Energy. 

Carla joined Ontario’s energy sector in 2009. She has held various executive-level roles at Ontario Power Generation, including oversight of the Centre for Canadian Nuclear Sustainability. Before that, she held several senior positions in the wireless mobile industry and worked in public accounting. 

She has served as Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee of Ontario Tech University’s Board of Governors and has contributed her expertise through board appointments with the CANDU Owners Group (now Conexus Nuclear Inc.), the Durham College Foundation, and the Durham Region Soccer Association. She also continues to serve as Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee of the Ontario Energy Board.

She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA (CA)), and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Business Administration degree, and an Institute of Corporate Directors Designation (ICD.D).    

She resides in Trent Lakes, Ontario with her husband of more than 30 years, after raising their family in Durham Region.
