Jeffrey Spiegelman
Jeffrey Spiegelman is a distinguished lawyer with over 35 years of practice on Bay Street in Toronto. He specializes in bankruptcy and insolvency, restructurings and re-organizations, and complex commercial litigation. Recently appointed as Deputy Judge for the Toronto Region by Ontario’s Attorney General, he brings extensive expertise in judicial and advocacy roles within both courts, and tribunals.
Jeffrey has served as a trusted advisor to public and private boards, and businesses, including leading Canadian and American financial institutions, private equity investors, and senior lenders in matters ranging from cross-border restructurings to commercial litigation and loan transactions. His dedication extends beyond the legal profession. Jeffrey has served on the Board of Directors of the Condominium Authority of Ontario and was appointed by Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor in Council to the Board of Governors of Ontario Tech University.
Jeffrey previously served as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Insolvency Law Section and as a member of the Executive of the Canadian Bar Association Insolvency Law Section. He has also taught insolvency law at the Bar Admission course in Toronto. Known for his principled approach to legal practice and governance, Jeffrey has contributed to strategic initiatives and regulatory best practices within Ontario’s legal community, and beyond. His professional and board experiences reflect a sustained commitment to advancing excellence in law, education, and public service.
When not in the office, courtrooms or boardrooms, Jeffrey enjoys spending time with his wife, Margaret, and their boys. On weekends and most evenings, you will find Jeffrey in one of the many rinks across the GTA with his hockey-playing sons.
