Get to Know the Academic Council

Academic Council is the governing body that represents the academic community of faculty, students, staff and administrators at Ontario Tech University. It serves as a principal advisory body to the Board of Governors and exercises authority delegated by the Board with respect to specific matters as provided by the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Act and By-law No. 2.   

Academic Council is comprised of ex-officio members and elected members from teaching staff, administrative staff and students. Academic Council also has standing Committees that support its work. 

Academic Council’s responsibilities include: 

  • Establishing and regulating academic standards, curriculum policies and procedures  
  • Overseeing development of new programs, program reviews, and academic policy changes 
  • Making recommendations to the Board on specific matters designated by the Board 
  • Supporting the advancement of the University’s vision, mission and strategic priorities
