Academic Council Meetings

Academic Council meets between September and June. Meetings and sessions are typically held at 2:30 p.m. with six regular meetings and four sessions focusing on topics of broad academic interest, including an orientation session. Academic Council meetings/sessions are usually on the fourth Tuesday of each month except for June.

Meetings/sessions are generally held in person, with two virtually in January and February. Please refer to the specific meeting/session agenda to confirm the date, time and location. The meeting agenda and material are posted several days prior to the meeting. 

Can I attend an Academic Council meeting?

Public sessions of Academic Council are open to all individuals, both internal and external to the University. For public attendees, registration is preferred at least 48 hours prior to the meeting using the Zoom webinar link provided at the top of the applicable agenda. 

For any in-person meetings, public attendance is subject to space limitations, on a first come/first served basis. 

Can I ask to add an agenda item?

Academic Council is an integral part of the University’s governance framework and as such its Agendas focus on strategic level discussion to fulfill its mandate and help advance the University’s Vision, Mission, Values and strategic priorities.  

The Academic Council’s Steering Committee is responsible for facilitating the work of the Academic Council. This includes reviewing and approving Academic Council meeting Agendas. The Steering Committee agenda is approved by the Chair at least one week in advance of their meeting. If an individual wishes to request the addition of an item on an Academic Council’s Meeting Agenda, please submit the proposed topic and supporting material to ACmeetings@ontariotechu.ca at least 10 working days before a Steering Committee meeting.  

If the request is approved, the University Secretary’s office will inform you.
